Detroit Historical Museum
Free to visit. Parking in the adjoining lot is $8, but may be full depending on the day you choose to visit. This is a great place to visit to give a greater perspective on the city of Detroit, its beginnings, and its rise from the ashes. The Streets of Detroit exhibit in the lower level is a visitor favorite.
Detroit Institute of Art
Free to residents of Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb Counties, but this doesn't include special exhibits. The DIA is appropriate for visitors of all ages, but it is important to be prepared. Visitors need to be aware that touching is not allowed and that library voice is the appropriate level to use when speaking. Rivera Court is difficult to capture in words, but easy to capture in your memory and heart. The Kresge Court is an inspiring spot to stop for lunch or a drink. The cafe also has great lunch options. Don't forget to pose with The Thinker in front of the Woodward entrance. It is a bronze casting that was once on display in Berlin and Leipzig.
Goat Yoga and Pingree Farms
Because this is privately owned it is not always open to the public neither do they have regular hours, but their calendar is worth following and attending their activities is well worth your time and money. Goat yoga is, well, yoga with goats. It is more about the fun of interacting with the animals than a great workout so don't wear your best yoga gear. I would highly recommend participating during the putting plants in the ground day.
Michigan Science Center
The Michigan Science Center provides lots of hands on opportunity for hands on learning. Lift 1000 lbs, launch a water rocket, and experiment with electricity. The shows are excellent and should not be missed as part of the day. We saw Kaboomistry and the Electricity show, both of which were excellent.
